'Gay Marriage Is on the Agenda'
On 15 November 2010, the Federal House of Representatives debated and passed a motion – initially proposed by Mr Adam Bandt (Australian Greens, Member for Melbourne) – in relation to same-sex marriage. The motion called on all Federal parliamentarians to gauge the views of their constituents on the topic of ‘marriage equality’ for same-sex ‘couples’. So, during the summer recess, our Federal parliamentarians will want to hear from us – as their constituents – on this matter. We can be sure that the advocates for the same-sex lifestyle will be contacting their Federal politicians, but will the vast majority of the people in our communities take the time to contact their Federal MPs?
It is vital that we continue to defend the institution of marriage! This is not merely a matter of old-fashioned values or the defence of a supposedly outdated institution. It is vital to the well-being of our society! In the 1920s, Dr J D Unwin of Cambridge University did research on the historical and sociological understanding of marriage. His conclusion from the evidence gleaned from eighty-six cultural groups through 5,000 years of human history surprised the anthropologist himself. He said, “The whole of human history does not contain a single instance of a group becoming civilised unless it has been completely monogamous, nor is there any example of a group retaining its culture after it has adopted less rigorous customs. Marriage as a life-long association has been an attendant circumstance of all human achievement, and its adoption has preceded all manifestations of social energy.... Indissoluble monogamy must be regarded as the mainspring of all social activity, a necessary condition of human development.” Dr Unwin, who had no Christian convictions himself, had to say, “In human records there is no instance of a society retaining its energy after a complete new generation has inherited a tradition which does not insist on prenuptial and postnuptial continence [faithfulness].” Dr Unwin’s research clearly revealed that marriage – monogamous heterosexual marriage – is the foundation for a healthy society. Dr Unwin published his findings in 1934 in a book entitled The Sexual and Economic Foundations of a New Society, but, with his death in 1936, the research has been largely (and conveniently) forgotten.
The legalisation of ‘same-sex marriage’ would dramatically alter the foundation of our society! Don’t think that it would be a benign eccentricity that would not impact of the vast majority of us. The example of the State of Massachusetts in the USA reveals what happens when a government legitimises ‘gay marriage’. The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled, on 18 November 2003, that it was unconstitutional for the State not to allow ‘same-sex marriage’. [Note, that was not a ruling that made it legal, just a call on the State Government to enact some legislation on the matter.] Within six months, without any laws being debated and passed by the State legislature, ‘same-sex marriages’ were being performed in the State. Within months, teachers of a same-sex orientation were telling whole school assemblies that they would soon be ‘marrying’ their same-sex partners. Books were included in school libraries – even early primary school libraries – portraying ‘same-sex couples’ as just another kind of normal family. When some parents complained and requested to withdraw their children from classes when such topics were to be discussed, the parents were told that the schools had no obligation to notify parents or allow parents to opt-out their children. One school even reported one parent to the police, and that parent was arrested and put in jail overnight. Because ‘same-sex marriage’ was considered legal, homosexual activists accessed government funds to distribute a large slick hardcover book that celebrated ‘same-sex marriage’ into every school library in the State. Some schools instituted regular “Gay Days” to help overcome any “intolerance”, and hundreds of schools now hold “gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender appreciation days”. In the legal profession, the Massachusetts Bar Exam now tests lawyers on their knowledge of ‘same-sex marriage’ issues, and in 2007 failed a candidate because he refused to answer the questions about ‘gay marriage’. ‘Same-sex couples’ now demand to be able to adopt children, and in 2006 the Massachusetts Department of Social Services chose two men ‘married’ to each other as their “Parents of the Year”.
In reality, a very low percentage of ‘same-sex couples’ actually ‘marry’ when they have the opportunity to do so. This is not about ‘equal marriage rights’, but about putting the legal stamp of approval on homosexuality and imposing it with force throughout the political and social institutions of our society.

Then, contact your local Federal parliamentarian to express the same view. If you are unsure of his / her details, go to www.aph.gov.au to get the information.
